Pet-Friendly Pumpkin Peanut Butter Mini Cupcakes Recipe

For Wallace’s 12th birthday party, we wanted to make a special dog treat that our pets could enjoy but that was also good for them. We made these pet-friendly pumpkin peanut butter mini cupcakes, or as we prefer to call them Pumpkin Peanut Butter Pupcakes, out of whole wheat flour, oats, pumpkin, applesauce, carrot, and eggs.

The dogs absolutely loved them! We even met this adorable little pup who’s pawrents told us that he never likes any dog treats that they get for him. Guess who loved them? He scarfed down a pupcake so fast that his humans took home the recipe to try themselves later!

Pumpkin Peanut Butter “Pup”cakes Recipe

Ingredients:

Yields approx. 25 mini cupcakes | Cook Time: 15-20 mins

1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup quick cooking oats
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup shredded carrot
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder

For the Frosting:

4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1/4 cup creamy peanut butter

Garnish:

Box of small Milk-Bone biscuit dog treats

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a mini muffin pan with mini cupcake liners (we used a 24-cup pan); set aside.

In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, baking powder, pumpkin, apple sauce, vegetable oil and eggs. Stir in carrots.

Scoop the batter evenly into the muffin tray. Place into oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.

In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese and peanut butter. Use a pastry bag fitted with a decorative tip, or just a ziplock bag with a whole in it like we did, to frost the cupcakes.

Garnish with small Milk-Bone biscuits dog treats.
